Eknath Deo, M.D., F.A.C.P

Dr Eknath Deo is triple Board Certified in Hematology, Medical Oncology and Internal Medicine and has years of practical and clinical research experience. Dr Deo was a Principal Investigator for the Breast Cancer Prevention Trial of NSABP, which proved Tamoxifen efficacy and safety in Breast Cancer prevention, and has consistently been named one of “America’s Top Oncologists” by the Consumer’s Research Council of America in Washington, DC. He is an appointed Trustee of Long Beach Memorial Medical Center where he currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Todd Cancer Institute.

 

Dr Deo received his MD from University of Bombay, India and Internal Medicine/ Hematology-Oncology training in New York City and Long Beach VA-UCI Medical Centers. He is a member of many professional organizations including ACP, ASIM, ASCO, and ASH; and of research organizations including NSABP, SWOG, and ACCC. Dr Deo is Associate Clinical Professor of Medicine at UC Irvine and Consultant Hematologist-Oncologist at all hospitals in the Long Beach area.

 


Rajendra Prasad, M.D., F.R.C.P.

Dr Rajendra V Prasad received his MD from Kasturba Medical College, Manipal and Mangalore, India and Internal Medicine and Hematology-Oncology training in New York City and Long Beach VA-UCI Medical Centers. He is Triple Board Certified and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Canada.

 

Dr Prasad has mentored as Associate Clinical Professor of Medicine at UC Irvine, and has been a member of many professional organizations including ASIM, ASCO, and ASH. He founded the Oncology Unit at Long Beach Community Hospital, and initiated the USA Match for Life program, which is now part of A3M—Asian Miracle Marrow Matches. He has been rated as one of “America’s Top Oncologists” by the Consumer’s Research Council of America in Washington, DC.

 

 

 

Robert Nagourney, M.D.

Dr Robert Nagourney is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Boston University, and received his MD as a University Scholar from McGill University in Montreal, Canada, before training in Internal Medicine at UCI.  He completed his Fellowship in Medical Oncology at Georgetown University, Washington, DC, and Fellowship in Hematology at Scripps Research Institute in La Jolla, CA.  He is board-certified in all three specialties.

 

Dr Nagourney is the Medical and Laboratory Director of Rational Therapeutics Inc., in Long Beach, CA, and served many years as Medical Director of the Todd Cancer Institute at Long Beach Memorial Medical Center.  He has authored over 80 peer-reviewed articles and is Professor of Pharmacology at the UC Irvine School of Medicine.

 

 

Nurses

Ann Tyree, M.S.N., N.P.-C.

Ms Ann Tyree is Professor of Nursing, and served as Dean of the School of Nursing at Goldenwest College in Huntington Beach, before joining Coast Hematology-Oncology Associates in 1999. She received her Nursing education from the Brigham and Women’s Medical Center in Boston, MA; and MSN and NP degrees from CSU Los Angeles.

 

Ms Tyree is an important liaison in the office and works in many capacities as a nurse practitioner, nurse educator, and patient advocate.

 

 

Debbie Cole, R.N., O.C.N

Ms Debbie Cole has practiced oncology nursing in the Long Beach community for over 10 years. She received her Associates Degree in Nursing from Long Beach City College in 1999, and was awarded Oncology certification by the Oncology Nursing Society in 2010.

 

Ms Cole practiced as an oncology nurse at Long Beach Memorial Medical Center before joining Coast Hematology-Oncology Associates in 2001. She later worked as a Moore-award Nurse at Long Beach Memorial Medical Center before transitioning back to private medical practice. Ms Cole returned to Coast Hematology-Oncology Associates in 2010.

 

Betsy Shumsky, R.N.

Ms Betsy Shumsky has worked in patient care for over 15 years. She completed her primary medical education at Long Beach City College and received her MA in 1996, before completing an Associates Degree in Nursing in 2002.

 

Ms Shumsky joined Coast Hematology-Oncology Associates in 2005, and later joined the nursing staff at Long Beach Memorial Medical Center. After transitioning back to private medical practice, Ms Shumsky rejoined Coast Hematology-Oncology Associates in 2009. She is a member of the Oncology Nursing Society.
